Halloween has come and gone. I hope that yall had a fun, safe, dry, and somewhat warm night Trick or Treating with the little ones. My husband took the kiddos out for their trick or treating extravagansa. We had a Robin (from Teen Titans Go!) and my 5 year old wore a pumpkin t-shirt and went as The Great Pumpkin from It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! They got loads of candy and were excited.
The next morning I had to take my 5 year old for a dental surgery. He was sedated so they could do what needed to be done. With his Autism certain daily tasks are difficult for him to do because of his sensory processing disorder; brushing his teeth is one of those tasks that is an abosulte fight and hard to do, if we even can. So with that, he had his 4 front top teeth pulled, and 6 silver caps put on. The procedure went well and he was completely back to himself the next day. Except for the fact that he couldn’t have any of his Halloween Candy he worked so hard for the night before.
Every month the owners Sarah and Doug have decided to do a little compition between us, their customers. When you post your completed project on the private facebook group, you have automatically entered yourself into the compition. Other members will either like or comment on your photo. On or around the 5th of the next month they will announce who won based on the number of likes and comments your picture recieved. This months winner was announced and it was, Barabara J. Sarah stated, “…we loved the ariel view of your picture incorporating all of your placemats.” Congrats Barabara your little prize should have arrived if not it will soon.
I had gotten my Crochet Surprise Box a few days before all this happened. I’ve always thought that the couch pouches were an awesome way to store your remotes and tv guide. No clutter left on the coffee table in the living room. So, when I saw this I have to admit that I was a little excited.
The tea for the month of October came from The Jasmine Pearl Co. as always. It was their Jasmine Tulsi, Jasmine Tulsi is a fusion of jasmine green tea, purple leaf (Krishna) tulsi, lemon balm and anise. Tulsi’s unique flavor is a blend of mint. licorice, and clove; pairing perfectly with the delicate floral, citrus and sweet notes of this blend.
I have to admit that once I started this organizer pouch that I did have ‘frog’ it about 3 times. For some reason I could not for the life of me get the stitch count right on this once I got to row 3 and row 4. I never had worried about the starting chain counting as a stitch. I actually had to look up what it ment and how to do that. So, when the starting chain counts a a stitch you’re supposed to skip the first stitch and start on the 2nd stitch. Once I watched the video on youtube I had no problem getting my stitch count right. I will honestly now do all patterns the right way when it comes to the chain counting as the first stitch.
I am such a perfectionist when it comes to crocheting. I had a tough time trying to figure out the stitch count for the flap. I even went to my graph paper and tried to figure it out. My husband is a math wiz and I asked him how to do it and he was quick to answer but it didn’t add up either. I decided to quit trying to figure it out on paper and just picked up the hook. I some how mananged to get the correct stitch amount for the flap.
I knew right away that this wasn’t going to fit on my couch. The arms on my couch are super stuffed and fat. I have a night stand next to my bed so that idea wasn’t going to work either. I had decided to only do 8 rows of the flap and pinned it to my little crochet nook that my husband had made.
We had one member that had made hers and gave it to a family member who is in a wheelchair. I thought that was an awesome idea. I do believe that another member stated they were going to make a bunch and send to the local nursing home. So sweet and thoughtful. I bet the loved every single one of them and they are to good use.
Below are a few of our members photographs of their organizer pouch.
One member modified hers and has it in her vehicle….
Another member tweaked hers and attached it to her walker for her mail…
I love how we all made these to fit our lifestyles, great job everyone!
STAY TUNED FOR THE NEXT POST!
