Oh man what a month! Lets see; last month I left off with I believe the Thanksgiving post. Christmas has happened since our last few posts. It has been a crazy holiday season, thats for sure.
Christmas 2018 was a fun year for my little family. This was the first year that my 5 year old understood what the hype of Santa Claus, and presents. As y’all know that both my children are Autistic; with that being said they don’t fully understand things just yet, and get super overwhelmed with all the presents. My 4 year old actually won’t even touch and unwrap the presents.
Like stated above, it was fun. My 5 year old kept asking where all the presents were, when Santa was going to come, etc. I can’t wait till he can fully understand what the “true” meaning of Christmas is. Until then, its just loads of fun for us.
For New Years we didn’t do anything. Again, with the autism in the house most things are a huge sensory overload for my children and so we stayed home. Kids were in bed at normal time, fiance in bed as well. I was the only one up ringing in the new year peacefully and quietly. I think most would understand. Haha.
By the way, everybody’s Crocodile Trees came out amazing. We loved seeing how so many of you adjusted to fit your crochet style. I was so overwhelmed myself with all the projects I had going on.
My fiance was going on a deer hunting trip on weekend and asked me the day before he was leaving to make him a camouflaged beanie. I managed to whip one up for him in a couple hours. Its double stranded Red Heart yarn. He went out for the hunt; said the hat kept his head warm during the early morning hours of sitting in the deer blind.
After the hunt, I was scouring Ravelry, like I do often, for something to make my kiddo’s teachers for Christmas. I came across a pattern for purchase that I just had to have. I ended up buying the $5 pattern with out asking, haha. Showed my fiance a couple days later saying I couldn’t resist. He agreed and loved the pattern. The next day, he came to me asking if I could make them for his foreman and the foreman’s wife as Christmas gifts. I went to the store grabbed the 3 colors of yarn I needed and went to town making these 2 hats.
I ended up decided to make travel mug koozies for the teachers this year. I only had 3 teachers to make for. I ended up choosing 3 different patterns. Whipped up 3 of each design with just scraps, got to love scraps! My 5 year old was so excited to pass out presents to his 3 teachers.
This hat; Crochet Nudu (Billy Gibbons inspired) Hat, what can I say, thank goodness I am finished with this hat. I had no idea what I was getting myself into when a personal customer ordered this hat. Thank goodness she understands the time and effort it takes to make handmade items. She had no problem paying what I asked for. After 15 days, 1,396 dreadlocks this is the completed product!
As I said, overwhelmed with projects. So now onto the box for this month. I got it when I was in the middle of making the Nudu hat. I am the type of person that can not have more that 1 WIP at a time. I have to complete one before starting the other.
I happened to see on our Facebook group that someone didn’t know if the extra goodie was a food item or not. Because of that I was constantly checking the shipping status. I needed to get the box out of the mailbox as soon as I could. So it came, I rushed to the mailbox. Opened the box, OH MY GOODNESS!
Cupcake in a jar! Such a cute idea. The butter creme frosting smelt amazing! I put it in the fridge for a day or two. Pulled it out opened it back up, tasted the icing; tasted as good as it smelled. The cupcake was super dense and heavy but it was just as good. Below is a couple of other subscribers input on the cupcakes.
The yarn! I have always loved Caron Simply Soft. I always start a project and a few rows in I will take a picture of it and post it to my personal Instagram and Facebook showing a sneak peek sort of thing and see who can guess what I am making. I normally will hashtag the type of yarn and what not. This time I did #yarnspirations; Yarnspirations commented on my Instagram post asking to use my photograph on their website! What?!?!?! The tables have turned. Normally, I am the one e-mailed designers asking to use their photograph on this blog and now its happening to me! Wow! What an honor!
The tea this month is a “COCOA MINT – A decadent dessert blend of cacao nibs, carob and vanilla, accented with peppermint and combined with black and puerh teas. It is a rich and full-bodied tea with an enticing chocolatey aroma. Excellent with milk!”
*Jan. 18, 2019 – Father In Laws views; very minty, tried with milk and without milk he loves it both ways.
*Jan. 18, 2019 – Chrys Fox-McCormick: The tea was good. It gives you that dessert like taste without the heaviness of the the cocoa.
*Jan. 20, 2019 – Julie Aragon: That tea was amazing! I’ve already recommended it to friends and found the website that it can be bought from. It’s my cup of happiness! I love that I can re seep it 3-4 times without it losing its strength

Looking at the picture of the finished product on the insert, I instantly thought that this hat needed a pompom. Reading over the pattern insert I noticed there was a stitch that I have never seen before. It’s the YOSLST-Yarn Over Slip Stitch; super easy to do. Basically, yarn over, insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull through all 3 loops.
The pattern was easy for me to follow. It is repetitive and I only needed the pattern to see how many stitches at the beginning of each row. I really enjoy the Facebook group, I get to read and see all the tips and tricks everyone has used to make this easier to make. It helped this time for row 8 and 16.
Once I realized the right side looked different from the wrong side I was torn. I like the look of both sides. I want to make another one but sew it with the wrong side out. I still need to order my pompom maker set so that I can make the pompom for the top. This hat was fun to make, took only a couple days. The title of it states that it is a “Slouch Hat”, it was not a slouch hat on me. I guess my head is bigger than I thought. haha.
We can’t wait to see all the subscribers finished hats on our facebook group. I’m pretty sure that you are tired of reading my rambling; so I will leave y’all with pictures from our subscribers.
STAY TUNED FOR THE NEXT POST; SLOUCH HAT PARADISE.
Jan. 22, 2019 – Have you ever wondered; has anybody ever re-made a pattern with different yarn? Take a look at this “trivet” made by a subscriber. She used a cotton yarn and increased the hook size. This was made from the pattern sent with the Day Spa Kit from June 2018.
